Collegia

The UBC Collegia are dedicated spaces where first-year commuter students have access to a range of amenities and programming, specially designed to ease their transition to university life. In addition, they are a welcoming space to make friends, eat, study, or nap, and offer programming that connects commuter students with on-campus services, faculty members, and peer support. The names of the individual Collegium are:

Oak Collegium (located in Ponderosa Commons North in Oak House)

Tallwood Collegium (located in Brock Commons in Tallwood House)

Arbutus Collegium (located in Ponderosa Commons West in Arbutus House)

Life Collegium  (located in the UBC Life Building)

Residence Life

In the first-year residence areas of Place Vanier, Orchard Commons, and Totem Park, students are part of communities where they have space to study, socialize, and eat their meals together. Residence Life student staff provide peer support and programming to create connections amongst students. They also connect residents with on-campus resources including academic supports through our Professor in Residence Program. The professors share meals with students in the Dining Halls, have weekly drop-in office hours with treats, host programs in the residences such as movie nights and trivia games, and also attend other events as part of the community.

Through an emphasis on peer-led, student-driven initiatives and shared-decision making, the Chapman Learning Commons strives to enrich academic support and capacity building for all UBC students, with an emphasis on the first-year undergraduate experience. The Learning Lounge is a collaborative space within the Learning Commons where profs hold office hours alongside the Science Peer Academic Coaching program.
